Cragen Beca
- Object Title
- Cragen Beca
- Description
-
The Rebeccaites relied on swift coordination so they could act faster than the authorities and evade head-on confrontation. This item, a conch shell used in Talog, Carmarthenshire for communication between Rebeccaites, reveals one of the ways they achieved such a level of coordination; sound.
Additionally, the use of a conch shell reflects the coastal area of the riots and the Rebeccaites' use of an improvised and diverse arsenal; axes, saws, guns, and women's dresses were variously used by the daughters to create an inventory that while somewhat muddled, was incredibly effective. - Contributor
