Die Deutsche Zeitung (The German Times) · BARRICADES PROJECT

Title

Die Deutsche Zeitung (The German Times)

Description

The front page of the German Times newspaper from the 1st of July 1847. This was the first major publication produced by the liberals.

The paper attests to the strength of the bourgeois, liberal moderates within German politics in the mid-19th century. Whilst this reveals that the majority of political voices were supportive of liberal economic and social developments, it is also clear that this was somewhat tempered by a willingness to preserve the monarchy and to ensure that reform was cautious.
